Yes, But, However!

In the course of my duties here at BH I was tasked with watching the Obama infomercial.  A side effect of having to sit through Obama’s drivel is that I got to interact with my fellow writers and the readers of Big Hollywood.  Good stuff.

I’m only half kidding when I say this, but President Obama needs to channel Vince the “Sham Wow!” guy.  Pronto.  That is the kind of salesman he needs to become if he is going to lull the American public into buying Obamacare.  “You are going to love my co-pay, Charlie.  It’s made in Germany, you know the Germans make good stuff.”

Obama did not move the needle forward the other night.  ABC must surely regret its decision to have hosted this partisan affair.  Not only were they shown as the tools of the Obama media machine that they are, but they bored the American public to tears.  One thing stuck out: I don’t ever remember seeing the President of the United States sit around while a network took a commercial break.  It debased the Presidency.  How did ABC pull that one off?  President Obama could of surely gotten ABC to go commercial free, couldn’t he have?  Perhaps the networks are fighting back against the “all me” President, if ever so slightly.

The focus of the show seemed to be primarily on old people.  Odd, not just because the gray bashing seems like it is out of some apocalyptic Bruce Willis flick, but because they chose to focus on “end of life” over the 800 pound gorilla in the room: Illegal Immigration.  “End of life” is a thinly veiled reference to pulling the plug on old people.  When the President uttered his “Americans have faced challenges before, and we always rise to them” or something like that, I nodded off, and then I could only think, yeah – the way we tackled illegal immigration.  Head on and with decisive spinelessness.

Illegal immigrants cost us billions in health care costs and make up a large portion of the “46 million” that are uninsured in this country.  Getting that group legal and registered with a “D” is surely Obama’s next task after socialized medicine.  I’m not setting out to bash illegals here, it’s just that ignoring the stress they put on the health care system is completely dishonest.  I only watched the first hour of the infomercial.  If they had a Minuteman on later, taking Obama to task in the extended session, I apologize.

Whatever bill the President signs will mean higher taxes, less choice and more government control.  Nothing can be done about that until 2010 and 2012.  The Congressional races in 2010 suddenly matter a whole lot.
